Dry apnea training on
Apple Watch Ultra
Breath-hold training anywhere, timed on the wrist. Dry Apnea mode in FreeDive Ultra counts you in, times the hold, and keeps your personal best in front of you.
What Dry Apnea mode does
Dry apnea is breath-hold training out of the water: on the sofa, on a mat, in a chair. It is how freedivers train between sessions in the sea or the pool.
Dry Apnea mode on Apple Watch Ultra runs the hold for you. A breathe-up countdown gets you ready if you want one. One button on the screen starts the hold and stops it. Your personal best sits on the screen and turns green the moment you pass it, with your heart rate and the number of holds beside it.
Pick Dry Apnea on the home screen and tap Start Dry Apnea. No water, no Auto Launch, and the session ends when you tap End.
Breathe up. Hold. Stop. Again.
The watch below is a true representation of what Dry Apnea mode does. Tap the button on its screen to start and stop a hold.
Two settings
Both live in Training Settings on the watch and on iPhone. Whichever you use, the other stays in sync.
Breathe-up
Off by default. Switch it on and the countdown runs before every hold, two minutes to start with, adjustable to suit you.
Personal best
Set from your longest hold on its own. Edit it on iPhone if you already know your number.
Every hold, in the log
The session lands on your iPhone the moment you end it.
The session at a glance
Hold times as a chart, then holds, longest hold and total hold time, and every hold in a list with its rest and heart rate.
One hold at a time
Swipe through the holds: rest before it, hold time, and heart rate before, during and after.
Lifetime dry stats
Sessions, longest hold, total time and holds, under the Training filter in the logbook.
Every dry session goes to Apple Fitness as a workout with heart rate.
What dry trainers ask
Does it need water?
No. Dry Apnea is for breath-hold practice on a sofa, a mat or a chair. The watch records the hold and your heart rate; nothing about it needs the depth sensor.
Is it safe to train alone?
Yes, sitting or lying down. Never take a breath-hold into water without a buddy watching, not even the shallow end.
Does it record heart rate?
Yes. Heart rate runs through the whole session, live on the watch and shown for every hold on iPhone. The session goes to Apple Fitness as a workout.
Does Auto Launch start it?
No. Auto Launch is for the water. A dry session starts with a tap on Start Dry Apnea and ends with End.
Which Apple Watch does it work on?
Every Apple Watch Ultra: the original, Ultra 2, Ultra 3 and Ultra 4.
