Each app reviewed

Where each app is strongest, where it falls short, and who it's best suited to.

Oceanic+

Huish Outdoors

A full-featured dive computer app backed by an Apple partnership. Scuba-first, with freediving added as a secondary mode.

Strongest at

  • 40m depth readings right now
  • Apple partnership credibility
  • Heatmaps for dive site discovery
  • HR training zones, recovery and CO₂ assessment
  • Mature platform with a long track record

Weakest at

  • No free tier — subscription required for everything (24-hour trial only)
  • Scuba-first UX — freediving feels like an add-on
  • Fixed ~10 minute inactivity timeout
  • No GPS pin saving, no route tracking
  • Reliability complaints: crashes, sync issues, subscription not recognized offline

DIVEROUT

Third party

An all-in-one diving platform covering scuba, freediving, community, and media. The most feature-rich option overall — but also the most complex.

Strongest at

  • Breath-hold training on watch (O₂/CO₂ tables, custom plans)
  • Freefall and mouthfill alerts for competitive freedivers
  • Route tracking
  • Import from 10+ platforms (Garmin, Oceanic+, PADI, SSI, etc.)
  • AI photo and video colour correction

Weakest at

  • No data export — users flag this as a critical missing feature
  • Freediving buried in a generalist app with scuba and social features
  • No UDDF export, no compass
  • Newer platform with less track record

Blue Infinity

Third party

An indie freediving app with a clean, minimal design. Early stage with a public development roadmap.

Strongest at

  • Clean, minimal design
  • Freediving-only focus
  • Free watch app
  • Route tracking

Weakest at

  • No alarms of any kind
  • No UDDF export, no compass
  • No descent or ascent tracking
  • No HealthKit integration, no iCloud backup
  • Minimal features overall, no community presence
